VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

Three hours is all we need to make a difference!

The most important way to help us is to volunteer to work our tree site.  People of all ages can help at the site.  The work consists of cutting off the butts of the trees with a small electric chainsaw (that is easy to handle), putting netting around the trees, and collecting the money.

We normally have at least 2 people at the site for each time slot.  We especially need people who would be able to work the site during the daytime.  Students or anyone else looking for public service time are welcome, and we will confirm your service in writing.

JOIN OUR CLUB

100 Years of Service to our community

There are many different "clubs" which were formed near the beginning of the 20th century, such as Lions Club, Rotary, Auxiliaries, etc.  Our club, formed in January 1923 has managed to adapt to the times.  As a service organization, our club members organize our annual tree sale to raise money.  We partner with the YMCA, which is the largest social service organization in Massachusetts.  They deliver the support to children and families, and we support their efforts.

We are a diverse group:  young and old, in and out of the workforce, men and women, single and married.  We don't collect large sums of money from our members or ask for them to raise substantial funds to donate elsewhere.  We meet monthly to engage with each other, plan our service activities to support our community, and be a part of positive change in our world. Each individual contributes as they can, and with a modest annual membership fee of $75, our club is attainable for most anyone.

We are proud that our Wakefield-Reading club is a model for all others.  Through the efforts of countless men and women, we hold the honor of being the longest continually operating Y Service Club in all of the United States, and the second oldest in the entire world!  As a part of Y Service Clubs International, there are opportunities for our members to contribute at the local, regional, national, or international level.  Leadership opportunities are everywhere in our organization, if that's what you want.

We invite you to join us, or spread the word about our club.  If you are interested, please reach out to us by e-mail at dworkman@wrysc.org, click here to fill out our online form, or call our club President, David Workman directly at 617-899-6216.  We will get back to you to discuss the opportunities our club membership offers.
